Call to Worship
October 24, 2010
Isaiah Chapter 1 is God’s rant against the Israelites’ worship of Him. Why would he be upset about them worshipping him? It’s because they are not encouraging and caring for the downtrodden, the fatherless, and the widows. To get the complete picture, you might want to read this chapter.
I often wonder how pleased God is with our worship. Usually, I’m focusing my thoughts on the elements of the worship service itself. But here in Isaiah, God is telling us that a major part of worship is how we treat the people around us.
I blew it on Sunday. There was someone present Sunday morning who was having a tough struggle and in my striving to prepare to lead the congregation in worship, I missed the pain in this person’s eyes and heart. What a tough reminder to me of what is pleasing to God!
Pastor Nick reminded us Sunday that we need to be engaged in praying for each, especially because sometimes people are at a place where they can’t even pray for themselves. Get a head start on worshipping God this Sunday: in the next few days take some time to pray for others of our congregation, extend some encouragement, help relieve a burden. You just might bring a smile to that person’s face and maybe even to the face of God.
