Call to Worship
January 9, 2011
When we think of praise found in the Bible, the book of Psalms comes to mind. The last five books, especially, seem to bring that praise to a loud, exuberant climax. Each of these books begins and ends with PRAISE THE LORD! We are encouraged to join together to praise.
Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the godly! Psalm 149:1 Young men and maidens together, old men and children! Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his majesty is above earth and heaven. Psalm 148:12-13
While it is important to praise the Lord on your own throughout the week, there is something special about praising the Lord together in the sanctuary. I think it speaks to the sense of belonging that Pastor Nick preached about last week. We stand together, sing and pray, with the person who told us how God had blessed financially last week in a great time of need. We stand together, sing and pray, with that young family who are faithfully bringing their children up to love God even when keeping them quiet in the pew requires all their attention. We stand together, sing and pray, with the ones who we know have experienced devastating loss and come each week with broken hearts. We praise God for his faithfulness as we reach out, weep, and rejoice with those with whom we belong.
