700 years before Christ’s birth, Isaiah wrote a prophecy. Over 2000 years later, Handel would set that prophecy music that is still sung today.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. Isaiah 9:6-7

What a wonderful hope for a people who may have felt abandoned by God! God would rule over them, and yet, come as a child? How could that be? God, in human form, walking amongst them, living his life with them?

Remember, that you too, need not feel alone. When life is hard, set your mind on this hope—God is with us!

Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:10-11

Christmas is such a joyful time—pretty lights, festive music, & warm traditions. Sometimes after all the energy, money, and expectations put into celebrating Christmas, people can experience a great letdown. For Christians, it should not be so. The message of Christmas is GOOD news of GREAT joy.

Let us keep up the intensity of our worship as we look forward to what is to come, as we continually celebrate that a Savior came into the world.

Peace…God comes to you

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not.” (Luke 2:8-10).

Have you ever been afraid to take a stand for God because you felt like you didn’t have much to offer or that you were not good enough? Isn’t it interesting that God chose the shepherds of all people? Shepherds during this time were not at the top of the high society list. In fact they were near the bottom. They were uneducated, overlooked, and poor. At first glance they did not have much to offer.

Do not be afraid; the peace of God that came to the shepherds comes to you. No matter where you are in life; rich, poor, popular, not popular, skilled or unskilled, it does not matter. God makes Himself available to you right where you are.

“The Lord gives strength to His people; the Lord blesses His people with peace” (Psalm 29:11).

As you worship the Lord this week, thank Him for the peace He has given you.
